Agrisure Duracade Receives EU Approval

U.S. corn growers can now confidently make the switch to this unique corn rootworm control technology from Syngenta.
Agirsure Duracade Receives EU Approval
Hybrids with the Agrisure Duracade corn rootworm control trait lead to healthier plants with stronger root systems.
Syngenta has recently received import approval for its Agrisure Duracade® corn trait (event 5307) from the European Commission. The approval covers corn grain and its derived products for food and feed use within the countries of the European Union (EU).

“Syngenta believes in enabling growers with innovative technologies, like Agrisure Duracade, to protect their crop from corn rootworm and maximize yield potential,” says Duane Martin, Ph.D., commercial traits manager for corn and soybean product marketing at Syngenta. “Corn growers can now easily make the smart switch and rotate to technology that controls corn rootworm differently than other available traits.”

A Powerful Tool in the Fight Against the Billion Dollar Pest
The economic impact of corn rootworms in the U.S. is estimated to be approximately $1 billion annually, through a combination of yield loss and control costs. The Agrisure Duracade trait features a unique mode of action — expressing a protein that binds differently in the gut of corn rootworm — and is always stacked with a second, proven mode of action against corn rootworm.

Because Agrisure Duracade works differently, it is also a powerful tool in the fight against corn rootworm trait resistance, providing growers the choice of a different technology and the ability to rotate their traits in corn grown after a previous corn crop.

The Ultimate Trait Stack for Insect Control
Agrisure Duracade hybrids are sold as stacked traits (Agrisure Duracade 5222 E-Z Refuge® and Agrisure Duracade 5122 E-Z Refuge), offering growers powerful corn rootworm control that enables them to produce noticeably healthier plants with stronger roots and thicker stalks.

Agrisure trait stacks defend against the following insects
  • Corn earworm
  • Western bean cutworm
  • Black cutworm
  • Dingy cutworm
  • Fall armyworm
  • True armyworm
  • Beet armyworm
  • Sugarcane borer
  • European corn borer
  • Southwestern corn borer
  • Common stalk borer
  • Southern cornstalk borer
  • Lesser cornstalk borer
  • Western corn rootworm
  • Northern corn rootworm
  • Mexican corn rootworm
Agrisure Duracade 5222 E-Z Refuge is the most advanced trait stack on the market. Featuring both the Agrisure Duracade and Agrisure Viptera® traits, it offers industry-leading, broad-spectrum insect control of 16 key above- and below-ground insects — more than any other trait stack — to protect the yield potential of corn hybrids while providing the convenience and simplicity of an integrated E-Z Refuge seed blend.

Agrisure Duracade stacks are available in water-optimizing Agrisure Artesian® corn hybrids, helping growers manage water more efficiently. With this recent approval of the Agrisure Duracade trait (event 5307), all of the individual components of these stacks are now approved.

Industry-Leading Insect Control to #defendyouryields
“Insect management is key to a successful season, but insects are unpredictable,” says Timothy O’Brien, Ph.D., Agrisure traits manager at Syngenta. “Above- and below-ground pests can be tough to scout, and rescue insecticide treatments can be costly and difficult to time accurately for effective control. The best way to control these pests is by planting a corn hybrid with the right trait stack.”

“Syngenta believes in enabling growers with innovative technologies, like Agrisure Duracade, to protect their crop from corn rootworm and maximize yield potential.”

By following O’Brien’s advice, growers can save time, money and resources on scouting and treating fields and gain peace of mind knowing their genetic investment is well protected.

“Only the Agrisure traits portfolio can offer control of 16 insect pests by combining the Agrisure Viptera trait with the Agrisure Duracade trait in the Agrisure Duracade 5222 E-Z Refuge trait stack,” O’Brien says. “It’s the smarter approach to better insect protection and healthier plants. In the 2020 launch class, Agrisure Duracade products yielded a 4.1 bushel/acre advantage* over products without Agrisure Duracade.”
