Atrazine, used to control weeds in corn, sorghum and sugar cane in the U.S. and more than 50 countries around the world, has become an essential component in agricultural producers’ crop protection toolkit for over 55 years. The U.S. economy benefits from atrazine and other triazine herbicides by an average of $4.1 billion per year, due to increased crop yields and reduced input costs. As one of the few herbicide modes of action available to growers, atrazine also plays a key role in herbicide-resistant weed-management programs. Additionally, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by enabling no-till, which promotes the storage of about 600 pounds of carbon in an acre of soil each year.
