A Common Purpose

A cross-company collaboration at Syngenta will result in giving growers a new weapon to combat resistant weeds in 2015.
A Common Purpose

Close to 30 Syngenta scientists and agricultural professionals have contributed to the development of the company’s newest weed-management solution, Acuron herbicide. From R&D scientists to formulation developers, they have worked together in the laboratory and field to bring the product to market. To help address growers’ and retailers’ questions for the 2015 growing season, 12 representatives from this impressive group make up the “Acuron Tech Team.”

One key team player is Scott Cully, an R&D scientist and 25-year industry veteran. “Acuron has been an exciting new tool for us to work with,” he says. “It brings a level of control to the market that we have never seen before. Each year we see more and more glyphosate resistance develop, and this herbicide will give us an additional mode of action to combat problem weeds.”

Gordon Vail, Ph.D., technical product lead for herbicides, has been involved with the development of Acuron since its inception. One of the most exciting things for him about this process has been the cross-company collaboration. “It’s motivating to be a part of something like this, where a group of herbicide experts from across the Corn Belt have come together for a single technology,” he says. “Working with Acuron is something that all of us can look back at and be proud that we were a part of it.”
